Established in 1983 as Orlando Legal Assistants, CFPA has been a source of networking, education and support for legal professionals this area for more than 25 years. In 1995-96, OLA became the Central Florida Paralegal Association. One of the unique distinctions of this name change is that CFPA was the first association of legal professionals in the State of Florida to incorporate the use of the term "paralegal" in its name. In the past, CFPA was actually a member of PAF, but later withdrew that membership, but not its professional support of that organization and all the good work they & other association members do. In 2001, CFPA became incorporated as a not for profit organization, making it the current: Central Florida Paralegal Association, Inc.
CFPA has continued its mission in the following ways:
Students - Supporting legal students (both members and non-members) with free seminars, guest speaking to capstone classes and a scholarship program
Community Service - Supporting area charities and events by sponsoring food, toy and school supply drives, fund raising for area charities including Walk for the Trees, Alzheimer's Research, Breast Cancer awareness, Cystic Fibrosis foundation, Teen Court, a Gift for Teaching, Second Harvest Food Bank, Loaves & Fishes, Orlando Union Rescue Mission, XL106 Baby DJ toy drive, to name a few of the more recent recipients of CFPA's membership.
Professional Development - Sponsoring and co-sponsoring educational events such as Law Week activities, Pathways in Law, weekend seminar retreats, brown-bag lunch hour seminars, annual CP exam preparation (review course), Super Saturday daylong CP exam preparation, evening seminars in a variety of topics including notary update, Legal Ethics, Construction Law, Litigation, Trial Prep, Real Estate, Mediation, and many, many others.
Networking Opportunities - job bank, monthly/quarterly luncheons, quarterly membership meetings, mixers, holiday parties, Yahoo group list serv/web board, Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and continued and regular updates to this website.
